By understanding how the immune system responds to allergies, the sufferer will be better placed to recognise the symptoms of their allergic reaction. A person is said to have an allergy if they are allergic to generally non-toxic allergens such as pet dander, pollen, fungi and mold spores or certain foods and liquids. Any allergic reaction whether it is an allergy to food, pollen or mold means that an individuals immune system is reacting to a protein found in those substances, and sets up the internal defences of the body to fight off this perceived threatening substance.
