In the medical field, many procedures are done as preventative measures. For instance, doctors use borescope inspection to perform a colonoscopy once a person reaches a certain age. During this procedure, a special borescope, called an endoscope, is used to look into a person’s colon. This is to be sure that pockets or tumors are not forming, which can indicate conditions and diseases such as diverticulitis and colon cancer. If an abnormality is spotted during the procedure, doctors can begin to treat a condition or a disease much sooner than if a patient had to wait for signs and symptoms to begin.
